also, I am frequently unable to get on or even to stay online due to the fact, my computer is located in a heavily industrial arae in which because of electrical interference often times keeps my connection down or not at a good bandwidth. I have the same problem with Vampire Masquarade Bloodlines and a host of others that are Windows XP native. The cause of this problem is the same with a lot of these games released in 2005(or around it) rundll32.exe, a rather incipid program, insists on running in your taskbar(in Windows 7 64 bit) when you are off line and prevents the program from running when you aren't connected. However, I will reinstall once more, and then try seeing if leaving the Galaxy client running see if that will solve the problem After I had previously uninstalled it the first time, I already tried deleting the folders you mentioned, in fact, they were gone with the GOG installer's "remove savegame command" when I last uninstalled it. Prior to the last time I tried and lanched Oblivion, and failed, I also disabled the GOG overlay in the game's settings on the Galaxy client and uninstalled Galaxy leaving the game intact. is it this or is it something stuck in the registry?
I understood GOG was DRM free in this reguard. it works fine online but not offline, my perferred method for playing this single player game. The ony thing I can see is the game is DRM'd you must not only be online the first time to activate it but everytime you launch.
